The Dutch Palace, also known as Mattancherry Palace, is a significant historical monument located in Mattancherry, Ernakulam, Kerala. Originally built by the Portuguese in the 16th century as a gift to the Kochi royal family, it was later renovated by the Dutch in 1663, hence earning its popular name. The palace is a fine example of Kerala-style architecture with colonial influences, featuring a beautiful quadrangle layout, sloping tiled roofs, wooden balconies, and a central courtyard.
Inside, the palace houses an impressive collection of royal artifacts, including ceremonial dresses, weapons, palanquins, and portraits of Kochi rulers. However, its most captivating feature is the series of exquisite mural paintings that adorn the walls of the royal bedchamber.
